Dental Cross-Polarization Photography: Filters and Compatibility

Cross-polarization is a lighting technique used in dental photography to reduce surface glare. It is particularly useful when bright reflections obscure details on glossy tooth surfaces.

How does it work?

Cross-polarization uses polarizing elements in the illumination path and in front of the camera. When their orientations are crossed, much of the directly reflected polarized light is suppressed. The exact result depends on the camera, light source, filter alignment and subject.

When should you use it?

Cross-polarized images can help document tooth surfaces with fewer bright highlights. They do not replace conventional photographs: the two lighting styles show different characteristics, so consider capturing both when useful for your workflow.

Choose a filter that matches your flash or light

Polarization screens are not interchangeable across every system. Shop the dedicated accessories for Godox MF12, Godox MF-R76, Meike MK-14EXT, Meike MK-MT24II, Yongnuo YN-24EX, and Yongnuo YN-14. For supported smartphone lights, review the MK-016 / MK-017 / MK-019 polarization kit.

Before ordering

Check your exact flash model, filter dimensions, included components and whether the light or flash itself is included in the listing. A polarization screen alone does not function as a complete flash.
